Jayinee and Patrick's Wedding and Reception

The Wedding

I am posting this while taking a deep breath after the crescendo of events also known as Jayinee and Patrick’s wedding. Jayinee is my daughter and eldest child. The planning and implementation for the event started about ten months back. From Wed Sep 25 to Sun Sep 29 of 2019, we had a series of events covering Bengali and Western wedding rituals.

Check out the following blog posts and virtually take part in the fun filled ceremonies with beautiful people in gorgeous dresses. Click on the image or the caption to go to the particular post.

The Indian reception

On Dec 6, 2019 we arranged a reception for Jayinee and Patrick’s wedding in Kolkata, India. Even before Jayinee and Patrick’s wedding was decided, engagement happened we all were supposed to make a trip in Dec to Kolkata to attend my niece (sister Damayanti’s daughter) Sharanya wedding to Soumyajit. ‘We all’ means our family Jaya, Jayinee, Rik and me as well as the whole Harrigan family – Shane, Lori, Patrick and Michael. After the Sept 29th the wedding, we decided that we’ll take this opportunity to have a reception for Jayinee and Patrick in Kolkata for our Indian family and friends.

With help of my sister Damayanti we found a banquet hall – “The Ayojon Banquet Hall” in Salt Lake, a walking distance from our ancestral home. For catering we decided on the most iconic Bengali cuisine expert – 6th Bullygunge place.

Anaviv Catering, an Oakland based boutique caterer, prepared and served the wonderful dinner. The guests were served the entre’ of their choice at their tables. The available entre’ were lamb chops, fish and a vegetarian dish.

The tables are set and ready for the guests

Each of the elements on the table are selected by the bride and the groom

The wedding favor at each place setting is an Indian stainless-steel tiffin carrier (lunch box) with two containers filled with Indian sweets and savory. The story behind the choice of this item goes back to Jayinee's fascination with Indian tiffin carrier. She got one from India and Patrick uses it every day as lunch box. They wanted to give the guests a practical useful item as 'thank you' gift.
